YellowEdit exists since many years. I╒ve originally developed it, by using Text Edit, as my own replacement of TeachText. Step by step I╒ve added several features up to use it as factotum application: for html programming, for quick image-movie viewer and so on. Its window looked so:
Just at the same time I was thinking about a public release, I discovered WASTE Text Engine by Marco Piovanelli (http://www.merzwaren.com). WASTE appeared me so beautiful that I adapted YellowEdit to WASTE, adding many of new features WASTE contains especially, since WASTE has a great object management, I removed special windows for viewing movie and QuickDraw¬3D file. I may use the same window kind for all jobs! After adaptation its window looked so:
For my personal purpose YellowEdit was beautiful. But it had several defect that stopped the public release. Slowly I eliminated all evident misbehaviour but one: it concerned the windows management and was not really a bug, it was just a structural defect. The simple Text Edit allowed things that the more complex WASTE did not accept.
Fortunately WASTE comes accompanied with an excellent demo written by Marco Piovanelli with the collaboration of John C. Daub. I╒ve changed the YellowEdit 's window management following this demo, therefore I╒ve ╥replaced╙ the window header with menus following, also in this case, the demo way.
I think that now you can appreciate YellowEdit.
Its freeware version is quite powerful and, best of all, lets you to use externals and extensions.
You should pay a Shareware fee for using the Full version. It's a your choice╔
Note: Please, don't press me about bug fixing. If you want new features ask some developer to write extensions. Working about the YellowEdit public release is really stressful. I don't know whether I will improve it, this will be dependent on shareware registrations, or YellowEdit diffusion, or whether WASTE is improved, or whether I add some feature for my personal use (yes YellowEdit is still the my own factotum application).
